Trying to figure out how to save money when we can often becomes a normal part of our daily lives. We want to know how to save on the cost of gas by seeing who offers discounts or rewards and which station has the cheapest prices. We look for sales on groceries or clothes in ads and see what coupons we can find for things we already know we need or want. Sometimes we even use apps to get rewards for things plan to buy. So why not start looking at how to save money on your homeowner’s insurance?
As in most cases, it is always best to shop around. Try to get quotes from different companies to see what your options are. If you own a car, be sure to include your current insurance agency in your quotes because a lot of places offer multi-policy discounts. It also wouldn’t hurt to see what car coverage options are offered by the agency you’re looking at homeowner’s insurance with. This could potentially save you even more!
Consider raising your deductible to lower your premium costs. Instead of sticking with a $500 or $1,000 minimum deductible, go higher if you can. Just make sure you have that money saved aside in case you would ever have to use it.
If you live in a disaster-prone area, such as a flood zone, then your insurance may have a separate deductible for damage from a major incident. You may also be able to get a discount for taking preparedness steps, like reinforcing your roof or getting storm shutters. Make sure your heating, plumbing, etc. are up to date and modernized to help prevent fire and water damage risks. These things are simple, though not always “easy” ways to help keep your premiums down.
Ask your local insurance agent about discounts for security measures. Can I get a discount for having deadbolts, fire alarms, or burglar alarms? What about my other security devices?
Make sure you pay your monthly mortgage payments on time and keep your credit score up as these things can influence your premium as well.
Always ask your West Virginia Insurance Agency representative what ways they can find to help save on your premiums. That’s what we are here for, and we want to be able to help you out! You are important to your agent, and your happiness and satisfaction does matter.
